Tommy Simpson of Alpharetta, Ga., was a starting guard in basketball for the Rangers both his freshman and sophomore years and was named to the All-North Division basketball team and All-State team in 1958. He was named Most Valuable Player during the 1957-58 season, averaging 16.8 points per game. Simpson was also a track team member and ran the 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds.

He graduated from Northwest in 1958, with an associate degree in business and went on to the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1961.
