Eric Schwartz of Milford, Ohio, helped the Rangers win their first NJCAA national football championship in 1982 with a 16-9 victory against Ferrum College in the East Bowl.
An offensive guard, he was selected first team NJCAA All-American as a sophomore. He also was named first team MACJC All-State and All-Region.
After Northwest, Schwartz played one year at the University of Texas at El Paso and had short stints with the New York Jets in the NFL and the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL.
Born and raised in Tampa, Fla., he graduated from Bearden High in Knoxville, Tenn., where he was an All-City, All-State, and All-American player.
