Bill Selby of Southaven spent one season at Birmingham-Southern College before transferring to Northwest, where he played second base for the Rangers. He led the team in home runs and was named MVP during the 1990 campaign.

He was selected All-American in 1992, while playing at the University of Southern Mississippi.Â

Selby spent several years in major league baseball, playing for such organizations as the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago Cubs.

He was inducted into the Buffalo, N.Y. Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition for his minor league play with the Buffalo Bisons, the Triple-A team for the Cleveland Indians. He was with the Bisons from 1998-2000.

Selby joined head coach Mark Carson's staff in 2007 as the Rangers' third base coach and hitting instructor.
