Hall of Fame
Nikita Taylor is one of the most decorated players in Northwest women's basketball history, ranking in the Top 10 all-time in 12 statistical categories.
The Indianola native moved to Holly Springs in seventh grade, running track and playing basketball at Holly Springs High School. A year later, Taylor was asked to join the high school team as an eighth grader. A young, energetic kid with a big heart, Taylor had to learn the rules of the game under the leadership of coach James Robinson, Maxine Tucker and the patience of her mother, Barbara.
At 14 years old, Taylor was the starting point guard on the high school team and went on to serve as team captain as a sophomore, gaining the respect of her peers and upperclassmen.
She enrolled at Northwest in the fall of 2003 and made an immediate impact. The Lady Rangers were 36-21 overall and 17-7 in the division during the 2003-05 seasons, winning the NJCAA Region 23 Championship and advancing to the NJCAA Sweet 16 her sophomore year.
A 2005 NJCAA Third Team All-American and two-time First Team All-MACJC selection, Taylor is the second-leading scorer in school history, scoring 1,027 points and averaging 21.9 points per game in two seasons.
She went on to sign with Union University and later tried out for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock in 2008.
