LaConger Cohran-Shelton of Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany was a star basketball player at Northwest from 1981-1983, playing on the team that won the1983 NJCAA Women's National Basketball Championship. She was named the MVP of that tournament, scoring 37 points and 11 rebounds for Northwest.
     
She was also named the MVP of the NJCAA All-Star game, was named to the All-Star team, and was an All-American.
   
She continued her basketball career at the University of North Alabama, ranking as UNA's third all-time leading scorer. She helped take the Lady Lions to the Gulf South Conference title and to two NCAA tournaments. She is the only player in UNA history to score 600 or more points in a season. She scored 30 or more points in a single game six times and tied a school record with 43 points in a game.
     
She currently holds a Programming Analyst position with the Department of Defense at the base where she lives with her husband, Air Force Master Sgt. Darrell Shelton and their four children.
