Hall of Fame
A versatile athlete from Pope, Taylor earned letters in three sports while attending Northwest in 1930 and 1931. Transferring to Mississippi State, he starred in football, baseball, basketball and track from 1931 to 1933 and was MSU Athlete of the Year in 1932. While at Mississippi State, he earned a total of eight letters and led the Bulldog basketball team his junior and senior years. In 1977, Taylor was inducted posthumously into the Mississippi State Sports Hall of Fame.
Upon graduating from State, Taylor returned to Northwest and coached for two years, winning the Mississippi Valley Conference Football Championship in 1935. During the offseason, Taylor performed for the Jackson Generals in the baseball farm leagues. The next 40 years were spent coaching and teaching at Pace (Miss.) High School, at Humes High School (Memphis), and at Treadwell High School (Memphis) from 1951 to 1975.
