Henry Williams was one of the most electrifying athletes to ever put on a Northwest uniform. He has played with his current team, the Canadian Football League's Edmonton Eskimos, since 1986 and was with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles for 13 games in 1989. Williams was also a first-round draft choice of the Memphis Showboats of the now-defunct United States Football League.
As a sophomore at Northwest, Williams, a native of Tunica, helped the Rangers claim the school's first national championship in 1982. He was named first team All-American that season when he caught 14 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Williams was named to the JUCO National All-Star team. He also excelled in track at Northwest, setting a state record in 1982 in the 220-yard dash.
The holder of various nicknames during his career such as "Humpchest", "Space Shuttle", and "Gizmo", Williams transferred to East Carolina University where he enjoyed two seasons and became one of the best kick returners in school history. Williams was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame in the spring of 1997 and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in September 2006.
Today, Williams is a motivational speaker in the Canadian province of Alberta, speaking to various colleges and corporations. He is also a personal trainer at the Alberta Sport and Development Centre.
