A two-sport athlete at Northwest from 1975 through 1977, Mike Rowan of Senatobia lettered two years in both football and baseball.
Rowan was selected All-State in both sports during his sophomore campaign. As a quarterback under head coach A.J. Kilpatrick, Rowan led the 1975 and 1976 Ranger football squads to the state playoffs. Northwest was 5-5-1 in Rowan's freshman season and 9-2 his sophomore year when he was named to the All-Star team.
In baseball, Rowan helped head coach Jim Miles' team claim the school's first back-to-back state championships. As a pitcher, Rowan also led Northwest to two consecutive north division titles. The Rangers finished 19-13 in the spring of 1977 and earned a berth in the eastern district playoffs at Louisburg, N.C., by sweeping Gulf Coast in the state tournament. Northwest ended the 1976 campaign with a 15-10 mark and took two-of-three from Hinds for the state crown.
Rowan is currently the head softball coach at Northwest, a position he has held since 2004. During his time as head coach, he has amassed an overall record of 309-145-1 and a 159-63 mark in the MACJC North Division. He has led the Ranger softball team to eight state tournament appearances and six Region 23 tournament appearances during his tenure.
Rowan was inducted into the MACJC Sports Hall of Fame in April 2012.
