Johnny Ray of Holly Springs played baseball at Northwest from 1985-87.

A product of Marshall Academy, He led the baseball team to a 44-6 record and the MACJC State and North Division championships in 1986. As a freshman, he posted a record of 7-1 with an ERA of 2.20 and was named an MACJC All-State Honorable Mention. In 1987, he posted a record of 3-2 with an ERA of 2.27.

After leaving Northwest, Ray was a member of the Delta State University baseball team from 1988-89. In June 1989, he signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Reds and played five seasons compiling a 48-29 pitching record.

Ray served as the assistant baseball coach for Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis from 1999-2002. He was promoted to head baseball coach at Southwest in 2004 and was named the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association’s Juco Coach of the Year.

Currently, Ray is the Director of Baseball for USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. Previously, Ray had served as the head baseball coach at Marshall Academy in Holly Springs, where he played in the Mississippi Academy All-Star Game following his senior year.
