Hall of Fame
A proven coach at six different major colleges, Proctor has 37 years of experience under his belt. He attended Northwest from 1951 to 1953, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. In 1952, he was named Best Tackler on the Ranger football team and was honored as Best Male Athlete in 1953.
From Helena, Ark., Proctor transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he was captain of the football squad, Outstanding Senior Player, and winner of the Cripp-Hall Award. He was a starter at blocking back for two years and made All-Southwest Conference Honorable Mention.
His coaching career, which began in 1955 at the University of Arkansas, included stints at the University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, Mississippi State University, Vanderbilt University, and from 1973 to 1992 at the University of Oklahoma. During his tenure there, he helped the Sooners claim the National Championship in 1986, capture 12 Big Eight football titles, and go to 15 bowl games. Proctor was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches' Association Hall of Fame in 1992.
