Lonny Calicchio of Plantation, Fla., played football at Northwest from 1991-92, leading the team to the NJCAA National Championship in 1992 and back-to-back MACJC State Championships.

He was named an NJCAA First Team All-American in 1992 and was also a two-time MACJC All-State and All-Region XXIII selection.

During Calicchio’s freshman year at Northwest as a kicker/punter he kicked 45 PATs and seven field goals for a total of 66 points. The Rangers finished the season with an 11-1 record. In his sophomore year, the Rangers were undefeated with a 13-0 record and were ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Rangers won the state, region and national championships. Calicchio led the nation in scoring by a kicker with 91 points in 1992. He converted 101 of 119 extra points and 15 of 24 field goals in his career while 90 percent of his career kickoffs went for touchbacks. 

After playing for the Redskins, Calicchio went on to play for the Cowboys, Eagles, Bills, Panthers and Colts. He left football in 2000 due to an injury.
