Mike McClenton spent two seasons with head coach Bobby Franklin and the Northwest football program from 1988-89. McClenton anchored the linebacking corps for the 1989 MACJC champion Rangers and the team also advanced to the Shrine Bowl. Northwest went 12-1 overall and 6-1 in the MACJC North Division during that season.

During his two years with the Rangers, McClenton was a two-time First Team All-MACJC selection and a two-time selection to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team. He was also named an NJCAA All-American during both of his seasons with the Rangers.

McClenton signed with the University of North Alabama in 1989 and declared for the NFL Draft in 1991. He spent four years in the Arena Football League with the Orlando Predators, New York CityHawks and the Florida Panthers, before retiring in 1999.

McClenton's name is scattered in the school record books. His 241 career tackles ranks first all-time, while his 116 assisted tackles ranks second. His 80 solo tackles in 1989 is a single-season school record.
