Hall of Fame
A standout in basketball in 1959 and 1960, Hunt was named All-American after his sophomore season while playing for Coach W.C. Oakley, a Northwest Hall of Fame inductee in 1992. Hunt led Northwest to a two-year record of 40-18. His many honors include All-Conference and All-State in basketball during his two years. He also set the national free-throw record of 47 in a row in 1959, while leading the Rangers in scoring with 26 points per game. His other accomplishments in basketball include leading the team in assists, free throw percentage, and scoring during both seasons.
Hunt was recruited by legendary Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp and every other Southeastern Conference school before transferring to Delta State, where he earned a B.S.E. He received his master's degree in education administration from Ole Miss.
A pitcher on the Northwest baseball team, Hunt was named captain of the South team in the Junior College All-American World Series in Coffeyville, Kan., in 1959. That season, he threw a no-hitter against East Mississippi and a one-hitter against Holmes.
Currently, Hunt is teaching physical education at Eastside Elementary in Brooksville, Fla.
