Gerald Perry spent the 1985 season with the Northwest football program, anchoring the offensive line for legendary head coach Bobby Franklin. Perry and the Rangers went 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the MACJC North Division, winning the division crown. He was also named a First Team NJCAA All-American and signed with Southern University following the season.

After playing with Southern for two seasons, Perry was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft, being selected 45th overall by the Denver Broncos. He played in 40 games with the Broncos from 1988-90, and started in Super Bowl XXIV against the San Francisco 49ers. He played for five more seasons in the NFL, spending time with the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders. In all, Perry played in 97 career games, earning 84 starts.
