SENATOBIA – Mississippi Delta exploded for a 10-run second inning and never looked back en route to a 14-4 win over Northwest Friday at Jim Miles Field.
MDCC, 2-0 winners over Coahoma in the opening game of the day in a three-way event, improved to 13-3 overall on the year. Northwest dropped its third straight to fall to 11-6.
Northwest took a 1-0 lead after one, with
Jack McClure drawing a one-out walk and pinch runner
Hunter White scoring off a throwing error at third two batters later.
The lead was short-lived, however, with the Trojans sending 14 batters to the plate in the second and scoring 10 runs off seven hits and one Ranger error.
Jarod Wright (2-1) was relieved by
Drew Hurst with one out in the inning after allowing eight runs.
Will Brooks' two-out, two-run double to left cut the MDCC deficit to 10-3 after three before a single run in the fifth and three more in the seventh pushed the Trojan lead back out to 14-3.
Grant McMinn's team-leading sixth double of the year plated
David Herrington for the final run in a 14-4 defeat.
Trey Morrison tossed the final two frames and allowed three unearned runs while striking out three.
MDCC out-hit Northwest 14-6, led by Tyler Jones' 3-for-5 game and three RBIs. Seven other Trojans had hits.
Aaron Campbell and McMinn had two hits apiece for the Rangers.
Northwest will try to get back on track later today, hosting Coahoma at 5:30 p.m. in a single 7-inning game.
