SENATOBIA - Following a perfect 22-0 record that yielded the program's first national championship, the Northwest women's soccer team has sent seven of its departing sophomores to four-year programs.
Three of the seven signees inked with NCAA Division I programs, led by midfielder
Yaritza Trejo (Ole Miss), forward
Penny Warner (Southern Illinois) and goalkeeper
Anna Kathryn Harrell (Central Arkansas). Meanwhile, defender
Allie Reed Greer will reunited with midfielders
Caroline Chandler,
Emma Earwood and
Raegan Tucker at Delta State University.
Trejo played in 20 of the team's 22 matches and is the first Lady Ranger to play for a Southeastern Conference program. The Memphis native scored a goal with two assists this past season, but was an unsung hero for Northwest during its national title run, coming up with big defensive stops in critical moments.
Trejo was a two-time All-MACCC selection for the Lady Rangers, garnering Honorable Mention recognition as a freshman and Second Team All-MACCC honors as a sophomore.Â
In her two seasons at Northwest, Warner was a valuable offensive asset, scoring 12 goals as a sophomore, which ranked as the second-most on the team only behind freshman
Emma Jensen (22). The Pearland, Texas native also provided four assists and earned Honorable Mention All-MACCC accolades during the 2024 season.
Warner leaves Northwest ranked in several career record categories, starting with her 24 career goals, which is tied for sixth-most with Gena Gutierrez (2004). She also leaves tied for seventh in goals per game (0.57) with Cheyenne Smith (2018-19), tied for ninth in points (57) with Adrienne Whitson (2002-03) and ninth in points per game (1.30).
Harrell is another student-athlete leaving Northwest with a decorated two-year career. The Tupelo native was the starting goalkeeper for the Lady Rangers over the past two seasons, recording 141 saves with only 15 goals given up. Her career saves total ranks fourth all-time in program history, and her .904 saves percentage is the new career record.Â
Harrell also holds career records in shutouts (29) and goals against average (0.37). Additionally, her 20 wins during her sophomore season is the Lady Rangers' single-season record, and her 18 shutouts as a freshman rank as the program's single-season record as well.
Harrell also picked up First Team All-MACCC honors in both of her two years at Northwest, and was the first Lady Rangers' first two-time NJCAA All-American.Â
Chandler, Earwood, Greer and Tucker will all continue their careers at Delta State University, continuing a pipeline of Northwest student-athletes heading to the Lady Statesmen. Chandler, a native of Tupelo, was voted Second Team All-MACCC this season, contributing three goals and a pair of assists, while Earwood added three goals and five assists.
Greer, a native of Oxford, was chosen as an Honorable Mention All-MACCC selection and was a pivotal piece of the Lady Rangers' defensive unit. She started in 19 of the team's 22 matches and also chipped in three goals as a sophomore.
Tucker started in 20 of the team's 22 matches this season, adding three assists and earning First Team All-MACCC honors. The Madison native was also chosen for First Team NJCAA All-American accolades and was the defensive Most Valuable Player for the NJCAA All-Tournament Team.
All seven signees were part of a sophomore class that finished with a combined 43-2 overall record and a combined 21-1 mark in the MACCC. The Lady Rangers finished 21-2 during the 2023 campaign and claimed the NJCAA Region 23 championship.
Since taking over the head coaching reins in 2020, Northwest coach
James Beattie has now produced 24 four-year players, including 10 NCAA Division I products.Â
