Northwest Women's Soccer Takes Down Neosho County 8-0

McMillan leads the way with one goal and two assists

WESTFIELD, IN – The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team continued their dominant start to the season with a 8-0 win to cap off the opening weekend against Neosho County Community College (RV), finishing the game with their second mercy rule shortened match of the year.

The opening salvo of the game came after just 1:18 when Emma Jensen put an unassisted goal past the Panthers goalie putting NWCC up 1-0.

Kassidy McMillan picked up the first of two assists in the match when she found freshman Caroline Perkins for her first goal of the season in the 20th minute to put the Rangers up 2-0. McMillan wasn't done, picking up a goal of her own in the 25th minute when Perkins returned the favor.

McKenzie Rankins joined in on the scoring fun in the 39th minute with an unassisted goal and added an assist to Joline Knevel in the same minute to cap off the first half scoring and push the lead to 5-0.

The second half saw deja vu for Jensen who got the scoring going in the 49th minute with her second unassisted goal of the match.

Northwest saw a rare break in the scoring for the next 25 minutes until Lara Stevens was fed the ball from Kassidy McMillan in the 74th minute to push the lead to 7-0 and the game was called in the 79th minute when Savanna Blackford triggered the mercy rule.

The Rangers defense was nearly spotless again, only allowing two shots and only one on goal resulting in the only save of the game for Ann Marie Barton who registered her second clean sheet of the season. NWCC took 25 shots in the match with 16 on goal. Northwest also did not allow any corner kicks to the Panthers while taking five of their own.

In their first two matches of the season, the Rangers have outscored their opponents 18-0 and both opponents have been recieving votes or are ranked in the NJCAA preseason top 20 polls.

The Rangers will return home on August 28th for an exhibition against Christian Brothers College at 7:00 pm. The match will be held at the Ranger Soccer Complex and attendance is free to the public. More information can be found at www.nwccrangers.com.
