CLEVELAND, Miss. - After guiding the Northwest men's and women's tennis programs through its inaugural season, head coach Will Irvin has stepped down to take the same position at Delta State University.
"Will Irvin did a great job resurrecting the tennis program here," Northwest athletic director Jake Gordon said. "He will no doubt take his energy down to Delta State and have success there as well."
In his lone season at Northwest, Irvin led both teams to the MACCC/Region 23 Tournament. The Lady Rangers collected four wins, all in conference play, while the men's team finished the season in the ITA JUCO Top 25 rankings and advanced to the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships for the first time in program history. It was there that the duo of
Samuel Turner and
Bratton Willoughby won a match in the consolation draw, giving the Rangers their only victory in the national tournament field.
Irvin also helped
Chris Albert conclude his JUCO career on a high note, as the Vicksburg native signed with the University of Tennessee-Southern earlier this summer, marking Irvin's first four-year signee.
A national search for Irvin's replacement is underway.
