FLORENCE, S.C. - Joshua Tedford was the lone Ranger standing on the final day of the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships on Friday.
Although Tedford was unable to win the consolation finals of Flight Five singles on Friday morning, his 8-5 loss to Pavle Markus (Seward County Community College) capped off a strong run for the sophomore and the rest of his Northwest teammates. The Rangers placed 16th out of 27 competing teams in the tournament field, logging 13 points for the week and earning the program's best national tournament finish.
Northwest was the third-highest MACCC program to place in the tournament, placing ahead of Copiah-Lincoln (8; 19th), Meridian (7.5; 21st) and Itawamba (6.5; 22nd). Mississippi Gulf Coast and Jones College placed the highest among schools in the conference, finishing ninth and 12th, respectively.
Tyler Junior College (Texas) won the overall event, earning 42 points, followed by Barton Community College (Kan.) with 33 points.
Northwest concluded the season with an 11-6 overall record and a 6-3 mark in the MACCC. The Rangers were also No. 18 in last month's ITA JUCO Rankings.
