JACKSON – A total of 74 Northwest Community College student-athletes have been named to the 2018-19 MACJC All-Academic Team, league commissioner Steven Martin announced over the weekend.
In addition, all seven programs were recognized as MACJC All-Academic Teams with a 2.5 GPA or better. Additionally, the Northwest Lady Rangers basketball program tabulated a 3.69 team GPA to take Academic Team of the Year honors for women's basketball.
Northwest has now boasted 322 Academic All-MACJC selections over the past nine years, including a school-record 80 during the 2016-17 academic year. This year's total of 74 is up from 41 selections in the 2017-18 academic year.
To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.25. Student-athletes with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.79 are recognized with Academic honors, while student-athletes with a 3.8 GPA or higher are awarded with Distinguished honors.
Northwest football led the way with 18 student-athletes on the MACJC All-Academic Team, while baseball and women's basketball tied for a close second with 13 selections apiece.
Softball and women's soccer tallied 10 selections each, while men's soccer and men's basketball wrapped up the academic honors with six and four, respectively.
Out of Northwest's 74 all-academic team selections, 23 were recognized with distinguished honors. Those student-athletes are denoted with an asterisk in the list below.
