Northwest volleyball set to host Meridian in Region 23 Quarterfinals at Howard Coliseum

Rangers would host semifinals on Halloween with victory

SENATOBIA - The quarterfinal match-up is set as the #16 Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team (36-0) enters the postseason as the top seed in the Region 23 Tournament beginning on Wednesday evening at Howard Coliseum.

The Rangers will face off against Meridian Community College, which finished the season at 16-16 and 2-8 in conference play. The Eagles picked up an upset win over Northeast Mississippi Community College on Monday night, taking down the Tigers 25-23, 30-28, 25-21 in order to keep their season alive. It will be the third time this season the Rangers have faced the Eagles, with the most recent result being a 25-15, 25-12, 25-18 win at home in their lone conference match. The Rangers also defeated them 25-15, 25-17, 27-25 on September 9 in a non-conference match.

The rest of the tournament field is as follows:
#2 Pearl River Community College (24-6, 8-2) hosts #7 Southwest Mississippi Community College (11-15, 3-7)
#3 Itawamba Community College (16-11, 7-3) hosts #6 Copiah Lincoln Community College (11-14, 5-5)
#4 Jones College (23-7, 7-3) hosts #5 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (17-9, 5-5)

Action will resume on Saturday, October 31st for the semifinal round, with the highest remaining seed hosting both the semifinals and the championship on November 1st. Northwest would be set to host as long as they pick up the win on Wednesday night.

The winner of the Region 23 Tournament will move on to host the District Championship against the Alabama Community College Conference champion on November 7th. A victory in that match would give the eventual winner an automatic bid into the NJCAA Division II National Championships, being held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from November 18th through the 21st.
