Women's soccer moves up two spots to seventh in week eight poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team made a small move up the rankings from the NJCAA on Monday, moving up two spots to seventh in the week eight poll after a 2-0 week of competition improved them to 12-3 overall.

The Rangers remain one of five teams from Mississippi in the top 10 of the rankings, leading ninth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (11-3-1) and trailing top-ranked Holmes Community College (13-0), third-ranked Pearl River Community College (11-1), and fifth-ranked Jones College (10-3-1). Johnson County Community College (18-1-1) is second, with Heartland Community College (11-1-2) and Pima Community College (15-0-2) rounding out the teams ahead of Northwest at fourth and sixth, respectively.

Northwest will be looking to improve their stock this week with a road trip to East Mississippi Community College (3-12-1, 1-9) for their final game of conference play, with the postseason beginning on Friday. Northwest, as of now, is in a three-way tie with Jones and Gulf Coast, with all three having beaten one of the other and all of them also having losses to Holmes and Pearl River. The tiebreakers will be determined by the MACCC after the conclusion of matches on Tuesday.

The postseason will see the opening round of play hosted by the higher seed, with the top seven from each side making the field. The host team will be the top finisher from the men's side this year, which is currently Pearl River.
