CHOCTAW - Sophomore Wil Linehan, Jr. posted the highest finish of any Northwest men's golfer, placing sixth out of 67 total participants in the Chris Clark Invitational.
Hosted by East Central, the tournament was mostly held Monday with the final four holes of the second round taking place Tuesday morning at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.
As a team, Northwest placed ninth at 69 over par, beating out Itawamba, Southwest Mississippi and Pearl River. The Rangers also finished one stroke back from Copiah-Lincoln, which finished eighth. Mississippi Gulf Coast won the tournament by four shots over Meridian.
Linehan, Jr. finished 10th in the opening round and was the highest Northwest player on the leaderboard. The Olive Branch native rose four spots in the second round, finishing in +6 with a 150 stroke.Â
Freshman
Landon Masterson also had an impressive rise between the two rounds, rebounding from a +17 finish on Monday to end the second round at even par. Josh Gibson dipped nine spots on the leaderboard, placing 46th at 22 over par.
Additionally,
Logan Drumwright competed individually, finishing 28th and +14 on the leaderboard.
For Northwest, it's the highest team finish of the season and the best since a seventh-place result at the 2017 MACJC Championship, the last team the Rangers fielded before reviving the men's golf program ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Northwest will return to competition on March 24-25 at the Lou Hart Invitiational, hosted by Meridian at Northwood Country Club. The event will be the last until the MACCC Championship, which is slated for April 7-8 in Corinth.
