SAUCIER - Competing for the first time in four months, the Northwest men's golf program placed 13th out of 14 teams in the Gulf Coast Invitational at Grand Bear Golf Club.
Hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, the two-day event kicked off the spring portion of the 2024-25 MACCC golf season and also included Enterprise State of the Alabama Community College Conference.
Mississippi Gulf Coast won the overall event, finishing at even par with a stroke of 576. Meridian placed second at +24 and a stroke of 600, while Northeast rounded out the top three at +32 and a stroke of 608.
Northwest improved slightly from a last place finish after the opening round, swapping places with Southwest Mississippi when the final hole was complete. The Rangers shot 73 over par with a stroke of 649, two strokes back from Itawamba and four strokes away from 11th-place Copiah-Lincoln.
Leading the way on the player leaderboard was William Linehan, Jr., who finished tied for 30th out of 76 golfers in the field. The Olive Branch native shot 14 over par with a 158 stroke, followed by
Landon Masterson at 38th with a stroke of 160 (+16).
Next on the docket for Northwest is a February 21 match against Itawamba, hosted at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs. The next tournament for the Rangers will be March 3-4 at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, when East Central hosts the Chris Clark Invitational.
