Northwest Cheer Captures Open Co-Ed Game Day National Title

Rangers finish second in All-Girl Game Day division; Dance takes home third in Open Game Day finals

ORLANDO - For the second consecutive year, coach Brandon Casey and the Northwest cheer squad will be coming home with at least one national championship.

Northwest took home the gold medal and national title in the Open Co-Ed Game Day division in Saturday's finals, earning a raw and event score of 94.8333. The Rangers finished ahead of Mississippi Gulf Coast, which came away with an event score of 92.0333 after two deductions. Campbellsville University finished third in the event with an 86.2667 event score.

"It was a great feeling to finally win that division again," Casey said. "We haven't won the Open Co-Ed Game Day division since 2021, which was our first year back in competition. [Assistant coach Rainy Bordelon] did an amazing job choreographing that routine and changing things when we needed to change them. The kids pulled everything together for the finals and performed accordingly."

Meanwhile, Northwest placed second out of 10 teams in the Open All-Girl Game Day division, finishing with a raw and event score of 95.0667 with no deductions. The silver-medalist Rangers competed against several four-year colleges and universities, including Lincoln Memorial University and the University of Minnesota at Duluth.

Only Pearl River finished ahead of Northwest in the Open All-Girl Game Day division, earning a 97.0667 event score with no deductions.

As for the Northwest dance team, coach Patrice Christian's squad finished third in the Open Dance Game Day finals, the same result as their semifinal performance. The Rangers finished with a raw and event score of 91.2333, with no deductions, trailing only event-winner St. Cloud State University (91.7) and runners-up Endicott College (91.6).

Sunday will mark the final day of competition at the UCA/UDA College Nationals, with Northwest cheer set to compete in the finals of All-Girls Traditional and Co-Ed Traditional divisions. Those finals are respectively scheduled to begin at 8 A.M. and 11:05 A.M. Central Standard Time. The Northwest dance team will also compete in the Hip-Hop Finals at 11:03 A.M.

Awards and results for all three of Sunday's events will take place throughout the afternoon and late into the evening. Updates can be found on Facebook by following Northwest Rangers Athletics, or on Twitter/X by following @NWCC_Rangers.
