Meet the Rangers Set for August 27

SENATOBIA – Northwest Mississippi Community College will celebrate the start of the 2024 fall sports season with its annual "Meet the Rangers" event, scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 at 7 P.M.

Admission is free for the event, which will be held at Bobby Franklin Field and will recognize members of the rodeo, volleyball, football, men's and women's soccer teams, men's and women's golf teams, cheerleaders, dance team and Ranger Marching Band.

Meet the Rangers will highlight the 220-member Ranger Band, under the direction of Drum Major Makenzi Duffie of Lewisburg High School. The band will perform snippets from their 2024 halftime show, featuring the following music: "Pump It" by the Black-Eyed Peas, "Rodeo" by Lil Nas X, "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon, "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars (featuring the Northwest Dance Team), "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys (featuring the Ranger Drumline), and "Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Though football season is still a month away, the Northwest volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer squads will kick off their respective seasons over the next few weeks. Lady Rangers will take on Arkansas State in an exhibition match on Tuesday, August 6, while the Northwest volleyball team is scheduled to host Frontier and Rust College on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Men's soccer is also slated to begin its season on Thursday, Aug. 15 at Blue Mountain Christian. Meanwhile, the Northwest golf and rodeo teams will make their respective debuts later in September. 

On the gridiron, Northwest will open its 2024 campaign at home against Pearl River on Thursday, Aug. 29. The contest will begin at 7 P.M., with coverage available on Ranger TV, Action News 5 Plus and WHCQ-LD 8.
