SENATOBIA - College football season is already flying by for many fans, as we now enter Week 5 of the 2024 season.
With some teams now taking advantage of bye weeks, some former Northwest football players will be off from this weekend's action. In all, a total of 42 former Northwest student-athletes will suit up for FBS and FCS programs this weekend, including Thomas Cheatham, a former Northwest baseball player that has made the roster for the Mississippi State football program.
Some of this weekend's games will feature Northwest football alumni squaring off against each other. One of those matchups occurs Saturday afternoon at 2:30 P.M., when Jacoby Jones and UCF host Rayyan Buell and Colorado.
Several SWAC contests pit former Rangers against each other as well, including an in-state showdown between Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State. Additionally, Texas Southern plays host to Jackson State, with both games occurring on Saturday evening.
Other notable matchups featuring Northwest alums include Friday's primetime ACC contest between Miami and Virginia Tech, featuring linebacker Sam Brumfield. Stephen Hall and Washington State have one of the later contests on Saturday evening, as the Cougars pay a visit to 25th-ranked Boise State.
