Football moves up two spots in Week 10 football poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Northwest Mississippi Community College football team bumped up from seventh to fifth in the Week 10 polls released by the NJCAA on Monday, taking advantage of losses by both Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (7-2) and Navarro College (Tx.) (6-3) to move within one spot of a spot in the national semi-final with potentially two games to play.

Northwest is now the top team from the MACCC in the rankings, trailing undefeated and top-ranked Hutchinson Community College (8-0), second-ranked Iowa Western Community College (6-1), third-ranked Trinity Valley Community College (6-1), and fourth-ranked Georgia Military College (4-1).

Other MACCC teams in the rankings still include East Mississippi Community College (8-1) in sixth, right behind Northwest; #7 Hinds Community College (7-2), which is entering the final week of the regular season having already clinched a spot in the MACCC and Region 23 Championship Game; and #15 Itawamba Community College (6-3). Gulf Coast did remain in the top 15 with a spot at ninth in the polls.

The Rangers are heading for a key showdown this week in Scooba when they travel to East Mississippi with the North Division title on the line and a spot in the MACCC Championship Game as well. Kickoff of that game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on Ranger TV with Tyler Springs and Russell Copeland on the call. Pregame begins at 6:30 p.m.
