CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Despite picking up one of their most convincing wins of the year, the Northwest Mississippi Community College football team (6-2) fell to seventh in the week nine polls from the NJCAA released on Monday afternoon.
The Rangers are coming off a 35-6 win over now 11th-ranked Itawamba Community College (6-2), who were eighth in the previous weeks poll.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College also tumbled after their loss to East Central Community College, falling to fifth and out of the postseason picture for the time being. Hutchinson Community College (8-0) remains in the top spot as the only remaining undefeated team in the Division I ranks, followed by Iowa Western Community College (6-1) at two, and Georgia Military College (4-1) at third. Trinity Valley Community College (6-1) closes out the top four, and Navarro College is in sixth at 6-2, leaping the Rangers by just one point in the polls.
Northwest has just two games remaining in the regular season, with a home game against Southwest Mississippi Community College this Thursday at 7 p.m., before hitting the road on the final week to travel to eighth-ranked East Mississippi Community College (7-1) in a battle that could decide who wins the MACCC North, with the Rangers currently leading both Itawamba and East by one game.
