SENATOBIA - As the regular season begins to wind to a close, several college football teams are fighting for bowl eligibility and possible conference title game scenarios.
With that in mind, several Northwest football alums will battle it out for and against nationally-ranked teams this weekend. One such matchup is 16th-ranked Ole Miss against No. 2 Georgia, where Tavion Prather and
Jarnorris Hopson look to be a part of a crucial home victory for the Rebels.
Former Northwest defensive lineman Rayyan Buell will also help No. 21 Colorado into a battle against Texas Tech. The Red Raiders also feature former Ranger offensive lineman Davion Carter.
Additionally, Virginia Tech linebacker Sam Brumfield and North Texas receiver D.T. Sheffield look to lead their respective teams against nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday afternoon.
Several games will also pit former Northwest teammates against one another. Colorado and Texas Tech is one example, but Eastern Kentucky vs. Central Arkansas features five former Rangers on either side of the ball, while the Jackson State-Mississippi Valley State contest will feature four Northwest alums suiting up for both teams.
In all, a total of 47 Northwest football student-athletes will suit up for FBS and FCS programs this weekend. Additionally, one former Ranger baseball player has made the switch from the outfield to the gridiron, as Thomas Cheatham has made the 2024 roster for Mississippi State as a receiver.
