CHARLOTTE - A day after being named the MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week, Northwest punter
Shade Foster has been awarded the same honor by the NJCAA, the national organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Foster, a native of Pearl, logged over 200 punting yards on six attempts, racking up a new career-best 247 yards. His most notable punt was a 56-yard attempt that pinned the Bobcats on their own 1-yard line, later setting up a turnover and a score for the Rangers. It was Foster's fourth 50-yard punt this season.
On the season, Foster has booted 34 punts for 1,230 yards, averaging 36.2 yards per punt. Thirteen of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line.
Foster becomes the fourth player this season to earn NJCAA Player of the Week accolades and the first special teams selection. Defensive teammate
Jykeveous Hibbler earned national recognition after the Rangers' Week 1 victory against Mississippi Gulf Coast, while quarterback
Ren Hefley won Offensive POTW honors after a road win at Coahoma. Last week,
Sam Brumfield claimed the nation's Defensive POTW honors after a stellar performance in the regular season finale at Northeast.
Now ranked second in the latest NJCAA poll, Northwest will play host to No. 12 East Mississippi on Saturday afternoon for the MACCC Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 P.M. from Bobby Franklin Field, with tickets available for purchase at
