Box Score DECATUR - A strong first half showing carried over into the second half for Northwest, as the Lady Rangers stunned No. 2 East Central by a 3-1 final in Friday evening's MACCC North Division opener.

For Northwest, the win pushed the Lady Rangers to a 1-0 start in the division and kept the team unbeaten at 6-0 on the season. The Lady Warriors, who had only surrendered one goal all season prior to the loss, dropped to 4-1 overall.

Ally Bailey provided the first blow for Northwest in the 22nd minute, heading in a corner kick from Jennifer Enriquez. Then, just before the first half expired, Eliza Olive tapped in a goal off another corner kick from Enriquez, giving the Lady Rangers a 2-0 advantage into the break.

East Central came out firing in the second half and nearly scored on a cross into the back of the net, but an offsides penalty kept the Lady Warriors off the board.

As ECCC continued to pressure the Northwest defense, the Lady Rangers gained some additional breathing room, thanks to an M.J. Loeffel goal and a Melinda Hernandez assist midway through the half.

Kara Wager finally got her Lady Warriors on the board in the 82nd minute, but Northwest never allowed much of a rally and held on for the massive upset.

East Central and Northwest finished near even in the total shots category, with ECCC holding a 12-11 margin and the Lady Rangers finishing 7-5 in shots on goal.

Maggie Olive locked down the Lady Warriors' shot attempts all afternoon, finishing with seven saves.

Northwest will now enjoy a week long break before turning its attention to Hinds next Friday, September 17. Kickoff from Raymond is slated for 5 P.M.
