JACKSON – Former Northwest football coach and athletic director Ken Bramlett has been announced as part of the 2019 induction class of the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
A native of Jefferson, Texas, Bramlett lettered in football and baseball at both Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Mississippi College, before entering the coaching ranks in 1956.
In between high school coaching stints at Clinton, Forest and Prentiss and after serving as head baseball and assistant football coach at Mississippi College, Bramlett found his way to Northwest in 1970, where he took over the reins of the Ranger football program following the departure of Billy Joe Cox. Simultaneously, he also served as the college's Athletic Director and Dean of Student Personnel.
In five seasons at the helm, Bramlett guided Northwest to a 20-29 overall record (.408) and a 14-11 north division mark. His two best seasons came in 1973-74, where he guided the Rangers to a pair of winning records at 6-4 and 5-4, respectively. During his tenure, Bramlett helped produce 17 All-MACJC selections, including 11 First Team honorees.
After departing Northwest at the end of the 1974 season, Bramlett went on to serve in a variety of roles associated with high school and community college athletics in Mississippi, with organizations such as the Little Dixie Conference, MAC Board of Directors, Mississippi Community College Coaches Association and the National Association of School Administrators. He was inducted into the Mississippi College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.
Bramlett will be inducted on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson. Joining him as part of the induction class will be Junior Graham, M.C. Miller, Geary Jackson and Kenny Robinson.
