JACKSON – Mississippi Gridiron Magazine announced its preseason All-Gridiron Team on the eve of the junior college football season and three Rangers have made the cut on defense.

Sophomore hybrid Quondarius Qualls along with fellow sophomore defensive backs Tito Windham and Wesley Bush give Northwest three selections, tied for second-most behind Gulf Coast's six.

Qualls was also named a "Super Sophomore" by Sporting News 2016 College Football Preview magazine earlier this summer. The Farmerville, La., native and Union Parish High School product had a stellar freshman campaign for the NJCAA national champions, finishing third on the team with 67 tackles. His 16.5 tackles-for-loss, 13 quarterback hurries and 10 sacks (T-16th in NJCAA) were all team highs.

Windham was a Second Team All-MACJC selection last season and enters 2016 as the 46th best JUCO player in the country and No. 5 cornerback according to 247Sports composite. The Gulfport native and former Oklahoma transfer saw limited throws on his side of the field last year but finished with 33 tackles (23 solo), an interception, fumble recovery and team-best 10 breakups.

A Noxubee County product, Bush saw action in 11 games as a true freshman, finishing with 30 tackles (22 solo), 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a breakup and fumble recovery. His lone interception came in a 66-13 win over Rochester in the national championship game.

The preseason Offensive Player of the Year is Itawamba running back Octavious Matthews, the league's leading returning rusher. The Auburn commit rushed for 808 yards and four touchdowns last year. He needed just 94 carries, averaging an impressive 8.6 yards per carry.

The preseason Defensive Player of the Year is Gulf Coast defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs. Buggs has his choice of major Division I scholarship offers after racking up 59 total tackles last season with a team-high four sacks and eight tackles for loss.
