WESSON – The Northwest men's soccer team opened the 2013 season unbeaten in two road matches at Southwest and Copiah-Lincoln, earning a 3-3 tie with the Bears before a 4-0 blanking of the Wolves.

The first 45 minutes of the season didn't go as planned, as the Rangers gave up a goal in the opening 40 seconds and trailed 3-0 at the half.

But the second half provided one of the wildest finishes in recent men's soccer history.

Sophomore Muhamed Bojang pulled the Rangers within 3-1 just 2:02 into the second half, but the two-goal deficit would hold until the game's final 2 minutes.

Anthony Fernandez found an open-net goal off the foot of Peter Geraci at the 88:30 mark to make it 3-2, and it appeared to be too little, too late. But the head referee let the game play on after the game clock had expired and Northwest found the equalizer in stoppage time when Gnande Zleh connected with Zach Farmer

"Wow, what a finish," first-year head coach Charlie Baldwin said. "I never imagined that would've happened after being down 3-0 at the half. It was an outstanding effort from all of our guys."

Friday's emotional tie carried over into the Rangers' first win of the year, as Northwest shutout Co-Lin 4-0.

Aaron Terrazas scored the first two goals in the 4th and 55th minutes before fellow sophomores Zleh and Christian Zelaya added goals in the 58th and 86th minutes. Fernandez had two assists and Bojang added another.

Northwest will return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 3 against Union University.
