CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In their biggest jump since joining the polls, the Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team (32-0) moved up four spots to 16th in the latest rankings, once more setting the bar for the highest ranking for a team in program history.
The Rangers are one of two undefeated teams in the polls, with Kirkwood Community College (IL) sitting in the top spot at 29-0. There are no other one-loss teams, and only third-ranked Iowa Central Community College (28-2), eighth-ranked Lake-Sumpter State College (23-2), and 15th-ranked Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (22-2) have only two losses. Second-ranked Cowley College (KS) has suffered only three losses on the way to a 28-3 overall record. Only one team ranked ahead of the Rangers has more wins, with fifth-ranked Parkland College sitting at 38-5.
The Rangers will close out their regular season this week with four matches, starting with a road trip to Southwest Mississippi Community College (11-14, 3-6) before returning home for a tri-match on Tuesday when they host Henderson State University and Rust College's JV teams, with matches scheduled for 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. at Howard Coliseum. They will close out the week with sophomore night on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Coahoma Community College (0-13, 0-8). They are in pursuit of the first undefeated team in MACCC history and have already clinched the number one overall seed in the upcoming Region 23 Tournament.
