Former Ranger Named to Idaho Coaching Staff

Decoud drafted by the Houston Texans in 2017 NFL Draft

MOSCOW, Idaho - Former Northwest defensive back and NFL veteran Treston Decoud has been hired as a cornerbacks coach at the University of Idaho, the college's athletic department announced on New Year's Day.

Decoud, a native of Hammond, La., arrives at Idaho after spending the 2024 season as a graduate assistant coach for Oregon State, his Division I alma mater. He played for Northwest during the 2014 season after transferring in from Chadron State. It was during that season that the Rangers made the MACJC Playoffs, kicking off the program's current stretch of 11 straight postseason appearances.

During his lone season with the Rangers, Decoud totaled 38 tackles, seven pass breakups and six interceptions for 73 yards, earning All-MACJC, All-NJCAA Region 23 and NJCAA First Team All-American accolades.

In his next two seasons at Oregon State, Decoud tallied 108 career tackles and 15 pass breakups, while starting 21 career games and garnering Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades. He was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, becoming the Rangers' 20th all-time NFL draft pick at the time and the first Northwest player drafted to the NFL since Daniel Thomas (2011).

Decoud's professional career spanned seven seasons, including stints with the Dallas Cowboys (2018) and the former XFL franchise Dallas Renegades (2020). He later joined the Toronto Argonauts in 2021 and the Edmonton Elks in 2022, both of the Canadian Football League. His final professional stint came with the New Jersey Generals of the former USFL in 2023.

Idaho is coached by Thomas Ford, Jr., who was tabbed as the Vandals' new head coach on December 18. Ford spent the 2024 season as the running backs coach at Oregon State after coaching the running backs and special teams at Idaho from 2022-23.
