Box Score SENATOBIA - Scoring was not hard to come by for the Northwest men's soccer team on Thursday evening, as the Rangers picked up their first victory of the season with a 5-1 blowout of Central Baptist College.
Chase Michael got the scoring started for Northwest early in the match, as the freshman scored off an assist from
Tyler Starnes. Shortly after that,
Miller Thorsen returned from injury to score his first goal of the season, bringing the lead to 2-0.
Though both teams went a while without scoring, Northwest caught some newfound momentum late in the half, as
Kamden Viverette connected with
Ben Marchetta to make it a 3-0 halftime advantage.
However, the Rangers were far from finished. Rodrigo Bandiera widened the gap to 4-0 with his second goal of the season, before Northwest closed out the scoring with a goal from Starnes.
Central Baptist did manage to spoil the shutout with a goal midway through the second half, but the damage had been done.
Jacob Little picked up his first collegiate win as the Rangers' goalkeeper, finishing with seven saves on the evening.Â
Northwest (1-3) will visit Southern Union State on Tuesday, September 10 for a 3 P.M. match. The two teams met for the first time last season, but inclement weather forced the match to be halted in the 65th minute and ruled a no-contest.
