PERKINSTON – It was a tough day for the Northwest Mississippi Community College men's soccer team (5-8-2, 3-6) on the road against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (7-5-2, 5-2-1) in a tough 4-0 decision that handed the Rangers their fifth loss in their last six games.
The scoring got underway early in the fourth minute when Bas van Baardewijk found the back of the net, and he would score again in the 41st minute to double the lead at the break, 2-0.
Another quick goal came five minutes into the second half from Michael Baty, and van Baardewijk finished off a hat trick in the 60th minute to push the lead to 4-0 on the way to the shutout win for the Bulldogs.
Northwest only managed to take six shots in the match and also only picked up one corner kick as they just couldn't get their offense working towards the net.
In goal, TJay Gibb took the loss, making five saves on the 11 shots on goal, while the Rangers only got two of their six shots in the match on the frame.
Northwest will be back in action on Friday evening for sophomore day when they host the Hinds Community College Eagles (2-10-1, 2-7) in a crucial match in terms of postseason qualifying for the Rangers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. or after the conclusion of the women's game.
