JACKSON - To the surprise of no one following his historical performance against East Mississippi, Northwest sophomore defensive back
Fredd Adams was chosen as MACCC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Adams hauled in four interceptions in last Saturday's 33-14 victory against eighth-ranked East Mississippi, including one returned for a touchdown. The Tupelo native joined Vandell Grisgby (1992) and Johnathan Shaw (1999) as the only players in program history to collect four interceptions in a single game.
Additionally, Adams also accounted for six tackles on the evening, serving as an integral part of the Northwest defense in Saturday's upset. The win helped the Rangers improve to 2-1, while dropping the Lions to 1-2 and out of the NJCAA rankings.
Adams is the first Ranger to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors from the conference since the 2022 season, when
Jykeveous Hibbler and
Sam Brumfield both earned accolades from the MACCC in separate weeks.
Now ranked 14th in the nation, Northwest will travel to Coahoma on Thursday, September 19 for a 6:30 P.M. kickoff. The Tigers (0-3, 0-1 MACCC North) trail the all-time series against the Rangers, 46-2.
