OLIVE BRANCH - A penalty kick goal from
Rodrigo Bandeira was all the scoring Northwest could find in Friday evening's 1-1 draw against Blue Mountain Christian JV.
Northwest moved to 1-3-2 on the season with its second consecutive draw of the season. The last time the Rangers finished with two or more ties in the same season came in 2017.
Though Northwest seemingly had all the offensive momentum early in the first half, the Rangers were unable to finish on their opportunities. Later in the half, the Toppers began to flip the script with some chances of their own, but both teams went into halftime with no score.
As the second half began, Blue Mountain Christian JV seemingly picked up where they left off, firing off a couple shots in the first few minutes of the half. In the 65th minute, the Toppers finally broke the scoreless draw with a goal from Logan Ballew.
Trailing 1-0, a foul in the box set up a penalty kick for Bandeira, which was successfully converted for his second goal of the season. However, neither team could break the stalemate over the next 20 minutes.
Northwest went into halftime with an 11-6 margin in total shots and finished the match with a 20-8 shot advantage. The Rangers also finished with 11 shots on-goal, compared to just three from the Toppers.
Both teams combined for 21 fouls, with 11 whistles coming against Northwest. One caution apiece was issued to each team, with Kenny Hernandez hit with a yellow card in the 31st minute and
Soren Voges-Haupt picking up his third caution of the season in the 62nd minute.
Northwest will now prepare for the start of MACCC competition, as the Rangers take a trip to nationally-ranked Jones College on Tuesday evening. Ranked No. 9 in the nation, the Bobcats (2-2) are coming off a 4-1 victory on September 7 against No. 17 Georgia Military College. Jones College also leads the all-time series against Northwest, 12-7-2.
Kickoff from Ellisville is slated for 7 P.M., with live coverage on
