SENATOBIA - Three members of the 2023 Northwest men's soccer program are bound for the four-year level, as
Ethan Barnes,
Gunner Pitt and
Josh Zuniga formally signed with MUW on Tuesday afternoon.
Barnes, a midfielder from Hernando, played and started in all 14 matches for the Rangers last season and finished third on the team with three goals, a total that included a pair of goals in a home victory against Holmes on October 6.
Barnes also tallied one assist, which came in an early-season matchup against National Park College. For his efforts, he was chosen to compete in the MACCC All-Star Match last December with teammate
Gabriel Burton.
Pitt played in 19 career matches as a defender for the Rangers, starting in eight of his 12 matches played last season. The Philadelphia native also scored the only goal of his career in a close 3-2 loss to National Park College on September 12.
Zuniga's lone season with Northwest was tainted by an early-season injury, but the Oxford native rallied back to play in the final eight matches of the season. The defender transferred to the Rangers after spending his freshman season at Hinds, where he played in 10 matches with the Eagles.
In two seasons, Northwest head coach
Michael Sullivan has now sent six players to the four-year level, including three last season:
Koby Rhone (Belhaven),
Jesus Villegas (Belhaven) and
Luis Cosme (Bluefield University).
