JACKSON - Northwest sophomore kicker
Jackson Uselton was chosen as the MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced Tuesday morning.
This is the second time that Uselton has garnered Special Teams Player of the Week from the MACCC, as the Hernando native also earned the award as a freshman on September 19, 2023. This is also the second time a Northwest kicker has garnered conference recognition for Special Teams Player of the Week, as freshman
Hayden Wolfe also won the award on Sept. 3, 2024.
Nominations and voting are done by the sports information directors at each conference institution.
In the Rangers' regular season finale at Itawamba last Friday, Uselton made a 20-yard field goal midway through the second quarter, which kickstarted a streak of 43 unanswered points for Northwest in the 43-10 victory. The win helped the Rangers capture the MACCC North Division title for the 20th time in program history.
Additionally, Uselton also made all five of his point-after attempts and finished with 116 yards on two kickoffs.
For the 11th straight season, Northwest is in the MACCC Playoffs, as the Rangers are slated to host Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday, November 9 at 7 P.M. The Bulldogs are the second-seeded team from the MACCC South Division, entering the matchup with an 8-1 overall record.
Both teams are also ranked in the top five of the latest NJCAA Division I Football Rankings. Northwest sits at No. 4 overall, while MGCCC is slotted fifth.
Tickets are available for Saturday night's semifinal showdown on nwccrangers.com/tickets. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 P.M. on the Ranger TV Network.
