NEW ORLEANS - Northwest alumnus and current Alcorn State receiver Monterio Hunt has been chosen to participate in the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame.
Hunt was selected along with several other players from HBCU institutions from across the nation. The Walnut native is the first Ranger to participate in the all-star showcase since its inception in 2022.
In his three-year career with Alcorn State, Hunt hauled in 64 passes for 1,217 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging nearly 21 yards per catch. In the past two seasons, he has played in 22 games for the Braves and hauled in 37 catches this season for 633 yards and four touchdowns.
For his efforts in the 2023 season, Hunt received First Team All-SWAC accolades, while helping Alcorn State to a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play.
Prior to his stint at Alcorn State, Hunt spent the 2020 season with Rutgers after missing the 2019 campaign due to injury. He played the 2018 season with Northwest, helping the Rangers to an 8-2 overall record and the MACJC Semifinals, finishing with 41 catches for 405 yards and three touchdowns.
Hunt initially signed with Marshall University out of high school and appeared in 12 games during the 2017 season, primarily on special teams.
Founded by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl is a postseason all-star game showcasing the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. More than a football game, the week-long celebration of Black culture, history and a career fair provides invaluable exposure and opportunity for HBCU students.
This year's contest is scheduled for Saturday, February 24 at 3 P.M. at Tulane University's Yulman Stadium. It will also be carried live on NFL Network.
