Jerrick Reed II Named to PFWA All-Rookie Team

SEATTLE - Former Northwest defensive back Jerrick Reed II was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers of America, the Seattle Seahawks organization announced last week.

Reed, a native of Olive Branch, had his season cut short after 10 games, but made the most of his injury-shortened season. The safety made nine tackles on special teams, a total that was tied for third most on the team.

Reed was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, joining fellow Northwest alumnus Damien Lewis on the Seahawks' roster. Lewis, a Canton native and starting offensive lineman, was also voted to the PWFA All-Rookie Team after the 2020 season in Seattle.

Reed started in 36 of 41 games at New Mexico, totaling 267 tackles, 8.5 tackles-for-loss and seven interceptions. He earned several honors during his tenure with the Lobos, including Honorable Mention All-Mountain West following the 2021 season and First Team All-Mountain West after the 2020 campaign.

Despite only spending one season with Northwest, Reed made the most of his time with the Rangers. As part of a loaded defensive backfield that consisted of future NFL draft pick Brandin Echols (New York Jets), Reed helped Northwest to an 8-2 record and the MACJC semifinals in 2018.

Reed is currently one of four former Northwest players in the NFL, joining Echols, Lewis and current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew.
