SENATOBIA - Two first half goals from Mississippi Gulf Coast sent Northwest to halftime scoreless, and the Rangers were unable to answer in the second half, falling 4-0 in Tuesday's match to the 17th-ranked Bulldogs.
Northwest suffered its worst loss so far in conference play, dropping to 1-3 in the MACCC and 1-6 on the season. Meanwhile, MGCCC improved to 6-1-2 overall and 4-0 against conference opponents.
Northwest kept Mississippi Gulf Coast off the board for the first 30 minutes of the match, but the Bulldogs' offensive frustrations were soon cured by a goal from Kade Smith in the 32nd minute. Roughly five minutes later, MGCCC netted another score from Nygel Jobe, thanks to an assist from Terron McIntyre, sending the Rangers into a 2-0 deficit.
Though the Rangers once again held the Bulldogs scoreless through the first several minutes of the second half, Mississippi Gulf Coast eventually broke through once again, as Jeongbin Kim delivered a goal in the 66th minute, stretching the gap to 3-0.
In the 72nd minute, Victor Moerck found Smith for the fourth and final goal, all but sealing the victory for the Bulldogs.
Freshman goalkeeper
Will Thompson netted six saves for Northwest, while David Ruiz Ospina posted a similar total for Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Northwest will look to snap its three-match losing skid on Friday night, as the Rangers travel to Hinds for a 7 P.M. kickoff. The Eagles (5-1-3, 2-0-2 MACCC) are coming off a 4-2 road win at Meridian.
