Box Score SENATOBIA - A penalty kick goal from
Matt Roth provided the lone Northwest goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to Southwest Mississippi.
Northwest dropped to 1-5 overall with the loss, falling to 1-2 within the MACCC. Southwest Mississippi improved to 5-1-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
Though the Rangers played a tight defensive match against the Bears, two early goals from Sergio Padin proved to be the difference-maker for the Bears. Padin broke the scoreless draw with a goal in the 15th minute, before adding another in the 24th minute.
Northwest had a handful of good looks in the first half, but were unable to put any in the back of the net. However, a foul in the box helped set up a penalty kick for the Rangers, which was successfully converted by Roth in the 37th minute.
From there, defense was the main story for both squads, as Northwest was just unable to find the equalizer.Â
Next up for the Rangers is a Tuesday home match against Mississippi Gulf Coast, scheduled for 3Â P.M. Winners of four straight matches, the Bulldogs (5-1-2, 3-0 MACCC) are most recently coming off a 4-0 shutout against Meridian.
