Box Score FULTON - A pair of late first half goals made the ultimate difference for No. 3 Northwest in Tuesday's road matchup at Itawamba.
In the battle of undefeated teams, the Lady Rangers earned a 2-0 victory against the Lady Indians, improving their record to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the MACCC. With the loss, Itawamba dropped to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Additionally, Northwest evened the all-time series to 17-17-4 against ICC and collected its sixth straight win against the Lady Indians.
Both teams locked in with a physical battle for most of the first half, despite the Lady Rangers holding the offensive edge. After a couple close chances, the efforts of Northwest finally paid off in the 39th minute, as
Raegan Tucker broke the scoreless tie with a critical goal.
Less than a minute remaining in the first half,
Evie Crawford tapped in another goal off a deflection from Itawamba goalkeeper Asia Robinson. The score would give Northwest the 2-0 lead at halftime.
Although the Lady Rangers looked to add to their lead in the second half, Northwest was ultimately held scoreless. However, the Lady Rangers never buckled on the defensive end, preserving the shutout.
