Lady Rangers Open Home Schedule with Shutout Win

SENATOBIA - Playing for the first time in front of the home crowd, No. 3 Northwest gave the fans what they came to see on Sunday afternoon, blanking Mineral Area College by a 4-0 final.

With the win, Northwest improved to 6-0 on the season, with the visiting Lady Cardinals falling to 0-4 overall. For Lady Rangers' head coach James Beattie, it also marked his fourth straight home-opening win since taking over the coaching reins in the spring 2021 season.

Jada Jelks got the Lady Rangers on the board 10 minutes into the match, scoring her first goal since the August 19 season opener at Jefferson College. The two teams remained scoreless until the waning moments of the first half, when Evie Crawford connected with Mari Julia Delgado to make it a 2-0 advantage.

Roughly five minutes into the second half, Raegan Tucker expanded the Lady Rangers' lead, scoring in the 51st minute off an assist from Jelks. The goal made it a comfortable 3-0 margin for Northwest.

Later, in the 57th minute, Northwest would pick up its final goal of the match, as Brandy Hernandez scored off a penalty kick. For Hernandez, it was also her first goal since the season-opener last month at Jefferson College.

Goalkeeper Anna Kathryn Harrell played the full match for Northwest, stopping two shots from the Lady Cardinals. In all, Northwest outmatched Mineral Area College in total shots, 36-2.

Next up for Northwest is a Tuesday, September 12 matchup with National Park College. The two teams met earlier this season, with the Lady Rangers taking a 10-0 triumph against the Nighthawks on August 23.

Tuesday's match is set for 1 P.M., with live coverage also available on Ranger TV.
