SENATOBIA - A four-goal performance from sophomore
Jadyn Duran was one of many takeaways for No. 3 Northwest in Tuesday's 13-0 shutout of National Park College.
Duran, a returning starter from last year's national tournament team, had been held scoreless all season until yesterday's offensive explosion. The Las Cruces, N.M. native netted her first goal in the 16th minute, before scoring again in the 20th minute. She also provided an assist on
Avery Hooker's score in the 18th minute, before finishing her day with back-to-back goals in the 70th and 71st minutes.
In the 73rd minute, both coaches reached a mutual decision to halt the contest, as Northwest improved to 7-0 overall. With the loss, the Lady Nighthawks dropped to 0-6 on the season.
Brandy Hernandez got the scoring started in the ninth minute, tapping in a goal off an assist from
Kaley Harden. After Duran scored in the 16th minute, Hooker followed in the 18th minute to stretch the lead to 3-0.
After Duran's aforementioned second goal in the 20th minute, Hernandez struck again in the 31st minute, netting her fifth goal of the season. The 5-0 advantage grew even more in the 33rd minute, thanks to a goal from
Jada Jelks and an assist from
Allie Reed Greer. The score from Jelks sent the Lady Rangers into halftime with a 6-0 lead.
For her part, Greer had a couple shot attempts in the first half that nearly went in, including a shot that ricocheted off the right post. The freshman from Oxford finally scored her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute, as a penalty kick made it a 7-0 advantage for Northwest.
In the 60th minute, sophomore
Evie Crawford got on the board with an assist from reigning MACCC Offensive Player of the Week,
Mari Julia Delgado. Less than three minutes later, Crawford also added an assist on a goal by Alexandria "Penny" Warner, stretching the lead to 9-0.
Warner added another goal in the 64th minute for her sixth score of the season, followed by a goal fromÂ
Bre'Aunna Harps in the 65th minute. For Harps, it marked her second score of the season, while
Raylin Dixon accounted for the assist.
Emma Earwood assisted one of Duran's final two goals of the match around the 70-minute mark, as the Lady Rangers improved to 2-0 at home.
Northwest stayed on offense for nearly the entire match, firing off 39 shots, with 23 occurring on goal. National Park College fired off one shot in the first half, and the Lady Rangers also accounted for all 15 corner kicks in the match.
For the Lady Rangers, this was the highest scoring match since the 2022 season opener, where Northwest also earned a 13-0 win against National Park College. Both matches account for the most goals in a single contest since September 26, 2006, when the Lady Rangers upended Southwest Mississippi by a 16-0 final.
Northwest will have another quick turnaround this week, as the Lady Rangers hit the road on Friday, Sept. 15 at Meridian. It will be the conference opener for both squads, as the Lady Eagles enter the match with a 5-1 mark and a four-match winning streak.
In the all-time series between Northwest and Meridian, both teams are tied at 8-8-2. The Lady Rangers have won the last four meetings, dating back to April 8, 2021.
